Summer jobs in Germany benefited both companies and students


How to handle the seasonal peak? A smart solution proved to be connecting foreign companies with students for whom a summer job is not only a source of income, but above all a valuable life and professional experience.
The benefits for the student workers are confirmed by Adéla Prášilová, Teamleader at Synergie:
“When I spoke with one of the students, he said it was the ‘best summer ever’. He learned how to set up a CNC machine – and thanks to that, he got a very well-paid part-time job after returning to the Czech Republic.”
Companies were satisfied as well – they gained seasonal employees who wanted to learn and experience a new environment. They could rely on them, and thanks to the students’ strong motivation, there were no issues with attendance.
However, successfully covering the summer season was backed by a logistically demanding recruitment project:
Students were initially worried about leaving home
Will I manage? Where will I live? What if I can’t communicate? Going abroad for two to three months is a risk for a young person, and feeling uncertain is completely natural.
That’s why we did everything we could to ensure that students knew what to expect and that everything was ready for their arrival. We welcomed them at the train station, gave them welcome gifts and provided a coordinator they could contact with any questions. We also enabled groups of friends or couples to travel together, which gave young people a sense of security.
“We really appreciated that accommodation and all related arrangements were taken care of without any problems,” say Alica and Adam.
Language is no longer a barrier
On behalf of our German clients, we handled the entire HR agenda. This included the whole recruitment process, legal requirements and logistics – all without any burden on the companies.
Even so, some concerns appeared. The main worry was that foreign employees would not understand. That’s why an English test was initially part of the interview process. However, it was later dropped – the students often spoke better than the interviewers. They also saw the stay abroad as a chance to further improve their language skills.
Where German was necessary, mixed teams worked well, with more proficient colleagues helping the others.

Finding student workers was only the beginning. Integration into a new environment was crucial – without it, students’ motivation and engagement could drop, and they wouldn’t get as much out of the international experience.
Besides preparing everything in advance, we stayed in contact with the students throughout their stay and continued to check in even after their return, when we asked for feedback:
- “Everyone was very kind to them and helped them with everything. They didn’t treat them just as short-term workers but as part of the team,” describes Adéla.
- “The feedback was very positive. All the conditions and agreements that were communicated in advance were fulfilled,” says Veronika Emrich, HR Researcher at Synergie.
How do the students themselves evaluate their summer in Germany?
“We were satisfied from the very beginning – we appreciated that you contacted us right away with a specific job offer, and the entire recruitment process was quick, clear and without complications. We also really appreciated that accommodation and all related matters were arranged completely without any problems,” say Alice Bariová and Adam Kubálek.
“In the end, I was very satisfied with the whole stay and consider it a valuable life experience. I’m thinking about going again next year if I have the opportunity,” says Jan Antl.
“For me, everything went perfectly fine and there were no complications at all. The recruitment process was pleasantly simple,” shared Antonín Piňos.
