Unstable shifts, new operation. How to find employees willing to adapt to changes

A British stairlift manufacturer urgently needed to fill operator positions in a newly launched powder coating plant. SYNERGIE delivered a team that operated even in the unstable conditions of a test operation. Thanks to this, the cooperation continues to this day.
Stannah Stairlifts Ltd. is a globally recognized British company with over 150 years of history. It specializes in the manufacture and installation of stairlifts that help people with limited mobility. The Brno plant focuses on the precise production of components.
Their new powder coating plant was technically ready for operation as of May 2024. The client contacted us in August 2024, when they were experiencing a noticeable shortage of operators. The company needed to quickly fill four positions in an operation that was still being tuned and tested.
Recruiting Employees for an Operation with Non-Standard Conditions
The client faced not only the challenge of filling multiple positions at once, but also the specifics of the environment. It was a newly introduced operation with no established working hours. The schedule was evolving according to the needs of production and the test regime, which required applicants to be willing to adapt to changing conditions.
“This non-standard regime significantly reduced the number of suitable candidates – making our ability to quickly filter the right applicants all the more important,” explains Anna Badinová, HR Consultant SYNERGIE CZ. In this case, we chose the model of temporary employee assignment.
Thorough Prescreening of Candidates
SYNERGIE chose a dual approach to sourcing candidates. The first part consisted of searching within the internal database of candidates with relevant experience. At the same time, we launched targeted advertising on public platforms. 93 candidates responded to the offer during the first week.
Each candidate underwent a structured prescreening focused on technical skills, flexibility regarding working hours, and general adaptability to changing conditions.
“We did not focus only on technical skills, but above all on the personality profile of candidates capable of functioning in non-standard conditions,” explains Badinová regarding the selection process. Out of 93 applicants, 29 met the prescreening criteria.
We presented the 4 most suitable profiles to the client within one week of the request. Another 11 candidates who also passed the prescreening remained in reserve for possible expansion of cooperation. All 4 presented candidates proceeded to a personal interview with the client, and 3 of them successfully started work during the following week.
Thanks to the Successful Filling of Positions, We Expanded the Cooperation
In the second phase, SYNERGIE delivered another 3 employees, who also started within two weeks of the request. The entire team thus grew to six operators.
“We were completely satisfied with the agency. We needed to quickly fill several job positions and appreciate that everything went very efficiently and without unnecessary delays. Communication was always smooth, with clear information and a flexible approach,” confirms Tereza Bartušková, HR Coordinator at Stannah Stairlifts.
The Stannah Case Demonstrates That Even in an Uncertain Environment with Non-Standard Conditions, a Stable Team Can Be Quickly Built
The key was quality prescreening focused not only on technical skills but especially on the adaptability of candidates.
